ABINGDON, Va. — The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved 3 roofing contracts at its Tuesday meeting at a cost underneath the $242,000 covered for the work within the county’s capital development fund.
That includes awarding bids and approval of contracts for roof replacements to Cornett Roofing for $104,184 on the authority’s middle building; Cornett Roofing for $73,520 on the Washington County Courthouse; and $ forty-two,208 to Leonard Roofing for the Washington County Public Library at Abingdon.
Also, on Tuesday, County Treasurer Fred Parker and Commissioner of Revenue David Henry said they don’t have any concept of how lots of lodging tax is being gathered inside the county via a California-primarily based reserving business enterprise, Airbnb. This enterprise contracts with the proprietors of homes, rooms, or other places to stay. Parker and Henry say as many as 2 hundred locations are being supplied as accommodations in that employer’s online listings for single-day leases in Washington County. “You’d be surprised some of the places on there,” Parker started as a part of the officers’ Tuesday presentation on sales projections for the upcoming 2019-20 budget. The officials proposed hiring a corporation, Host Compliance, for $6,071 to audit such leases to decide if the neighborhood leases are paying the tax. Not understanding whether or not these taxes are being collected has “grown into something of a trouble,” Henry said. “It’s a big unknown. … We have no concept who these human beings are. … We may be leaving a variety of cash at the table.”
