Stylist and author Emily Henderson have long been acknowledged for assisting human beings in decorating their houses with a bright and pleasing layout sensibility and an on-hand, price range-aware method. In her very own domestic, Henderson doesn’t skimp on shade and design. However, coziness and comfort are at the leading edge. “Our residing room is the coronary heart of the house. However, we don’t want it to sense treasured,” Henderson says. “People should experience as they can relax with a glass of crimson wine, and youngsters can play.” Henderson and her husband, Brian, have shared that sensibility from the start after they met in college twenty years ago. “When we moved in collectively, we had no furniture and accumulated matters. The typical appearance was brilliant, thrifted, and funky,” she says. “Now it’s a bit more grown-up!” With young children and busy careers, the couple’s Tudor domestic inside the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles is a colorful, eclectic area.
The couple’s laid-returned spirit is a gift at some point in the home and patio. “Ultimately, you need to layout your outside space as you’ll an indoor one, simply with extra weather-pleasant substances,” explains Henderson. That means pillows, poufs, and throws that face up to moisture—and a mixture of the latest and antique gadgets. “My biggest tips on creating an area colorful and cozy are to apply vintage portions and textiles,” she says. “Vintage brings soul and intensity into your room, and textiles make it feel welcoming.”

The Cisco Home sofa was named “the Henderson” after the stylist custom-designed it for her space. A cutting-edge status lamp from Target blends with conventional brass sconces from Circa Lighting. A silk-wool rug from Annie Selke is paired with an antique coffee table preserving favorite objects’ artwork. “Trays, along with some lovely items in numerous shapes and heights, right away make an area feel styled,” Henderson says.
The bedroom has supersoft linens from Parachute, an embroidered Rebecca Atwood pillow, and a shag rug from Lulu and Georgia.
The patio features an intimate seating region with a sofa, copper stool, and woven pouf, all from Target. The outdoor area feels personalized—and birthday party equipped—with a bar cart full of antique add-ons, eclectic linens, and handmade serving portions. “A bar cart is the ultimate exciting piece because it is so flexible,” says Henderson. “You can use it to serve delicious drinks, make it right into a food station, or maybe use it for craft storage or a plant stand.”
