Missoula’s homeless haven briefly closed Wednesday due to an “extensive” plumbing failure that impacted the kitchen, men’s dormitory, and a few storage spaces. The kitchen will remain closed until Friday, with sack lunches organized at Missoula First United Methodist Church as an alternative.
Officials said the closure was needed to protect the Poverello Center’s clients and permit for repair and cleaning of impacted regions. The haven reopened at eight:45 p.M. Wednesday for a single-day check-in, but no extra services. “The safety of our clients is a top priority for the Poverello Center,” stated Amy Allison Thompson, the govt director of the Poverello Center. “Once the issue turned into diagnosed, our personnel worked quickly to clean the affected areas and started to assess the damage.”
The Poverello’s kitchen, which serves 400 to 500 food daily, will be closed till Friday, May 10, and probably longer. The haven’s team of workers and contributors are operating with network companions and the Missoula Food Bank to plan to maintain serving meals during the closure.
